Buku Anthropology of Cultural Transformation I: Togetherness and Separation karya Zhao menganalisis perubahan budaya di tengah globalisasi dan kemajuan teknologi. Zhao mengeksplorasi dualitas antara kebersamaan dan keterpisahan dalam dinamika sosial modern, menunjukkan bagaimana identitas budaya beradaptasi. Melalui studi kasus etnografi dan perbandingan dengan pemikir seperti Clifford Geertz dan Arjun Appadurai, buku ini mengajak pembaca untuk merenungkan dampak perubahan ini terhadap praktik budaya dan kohesi sosial. Sementara Zhao menyoroti peran teknologi dalam membangun konektivitas, ia juga menekankan efek homogenisasi budaya. Buku ini relevan bagi akademisi maupun pembuat kebijakan yang perlu mendukung keberagaman budaya di tengah transformasi global.
