JESSD Journal Updates

April 22, 2026

We are pleased to announce that the Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development (JESSD) has officially achieved Q1 status based on Scimago Journal Rank (SJR). This milestone reflects our continued commitment to publishing high-quality, impactful research and strengthening our position in the global academic community.

In line with this achievement and to support the sustainability and advancement of our editorial processes, JESSD will implement an updated Article Processing Charges (APC) policy.

Effective Date: May 1, 2026

Key Updates:

  1. Q1 Recognition (Scopus Indexed Journal) — JESSD is now recognized in the Q1 category, marking a significant improvement in journal performance, visibility, and impact.
  2. Revised Standard APC — The standard APC is updated to USD 1,000–1,500 per accepted manuscript, applicable after successful peer review and acceptance.
  3. Enhanced Contribution Scheme — Authors may optionally contribute beyond the standard APC through a structured tier system, supporting journal sustainability and broader access for researchers with financial constraints.
  4. Waiver and Discount Policy — JESSD continues to provide support for authors facing financial limitations through a partial waiver and discount mechanism (by application). Please note that full waivers are no longer available under the current policy.
  5. By Invitation Scheme — Selected authors invited by the editorial board may be granted publication without APC based on editorial discretion.

This update is part of JESSD's broader effort to:

  • Maintain and enhance publication quality
  • Ensure sustainable journal operations
  • Promote fairness and accessibility in scholarly publishing

We appreciate the continued support of our authors, reviewers, and partners in achieving this important milestone.

Comprehensive Policy Updates

  1. "In Press" Publication System: All accepted manuscripts that have completed final editing will be listed as "in press" prior to formal publication (starting Volume 8 Issue 2, 2025). Note: "In press" articles refer to peer-reviewed and accepted manuscripts that are fully edited and available online, even though they have not yet been compiled into a complete issue. These articles are citable.
  2. JESSD no longer accepts case-based or opinion articles. This policy change aims to maintain our focus on empirical research and systematic reviews that contribute significantly to the field of environmental science and sustainable development.
  3. The maximum waiver for publication fees is 25%, granted under specific conditions and subject to editorial board approval. This policy ensures fair access while maintaining the journal's sustainability and quality standards.

We appreciate your continued support and look forward to receiving your high-quality research contributions to JESSD. For any questions regarding these policy changes, please contact our editorial office.
