Authorship or a co-author means a person who has made a significant contribution to manuscript and who shares responsibilities and accountability of the results. If a manuscript is written by more than one author, you’ll choose one person to be the corresponding author. This person will handle all correspondence about the manuscript and sign the publishing agreement on behalf of all the authors. If you are a co-author, this means that
- You have made a significant contribution to the research, whether it is in the concept or design, acquisition of data, analysis and interpretation, or in all these areas.
- You have drafted, written, or revised the article.
- You have reviewed and agreed on the final version of the article before submission.
- You have agreed on the journal to which your manuscript will be submitted.
- You are aware that you are taking responsibility and accountability for the content of the manuscript.
- You are aware that the corresponding author will be acting on your behalf in any communication about the article, through submission, peer review, production, and after publication.
- In line with standard publishing ethics, if your article is found to be unsafe, have errors, in some way fraudulent, or in breach of the publishing agreement, that responsibility is shared by all named co-authors.
Please make a note that the authors’ contributions should be mentioned clearly within the title page. Here is the example of author contribution:
A.B. and B.C. conceived of the presented idea. A.B. developed the theory and performed the computations. C.D. and D.E. verified the analytical methods. B.C. encouraged A.B. to investigate [a specific aspect] and supervised the findings of this work. All authors discussed the results and contributed to the final manuscript.
Authors who may have grievances about any aspect of their interaction with the JESSD should e-mail the Editor-in-Chief by email. All questions or complaints will be responded within 7 days. If required, the Editor-in-Chief will consult with other editors regarding the complaint. The Editor-in-Chief will liaise directly with the complainant and thoroughly explain the steps they have taken to resolve the matter.
At the beginning of the submission process, the authors must confirm whether the manuscript has ethical clearance or no. If the ethical clearance is obtained, the information on the ethical clearance number should be provided.
Conflict of Interest Policy
Authors who submit their manuscripts to Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development (JESSD) must disclose all relationship or interest that could influence, or bias the work. Although authors may not be aware of potential conflicts, disclosure of relationships and interest affords a more transparent process, leading to an accurate and objective assessment of the work. A few potential conflicts of interests that are directly or indirectly related to the research may include but are not limited to the following:
- Research grants from funding agencies (please give the research funder and the grant number)
- Honoraria for speaking at conferences
- Financial support for attending conferences
- Financial support for educational programs
- Support from a project sponsor
- Position on advisory board or board of directors or other type of management relationships
- Multiple affiliations
- Intellectual property rights (e.g. patents, copyrights and royalties from such rights)
The corresponding author of the manuscript will include a summary statement on the title page that is separate from their manuscript. This statement reflects what is recorded in the potential conflict of interes disclosure form(s).
The names and email addresses entered on this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.
In order for JESSD to publish and disseminate research manuscripts, we need publishing rights. This is determined by a publishing agreement between the author and JESSD. This publishing agreement deals with the transfer or license of the copyright to JESSD and authors retain significant rights to use and share their own published articles. For submitted manuscripts, JESSD is granted the following rights:
- The right to provide the manuscripts in all forms and media, so they can be used on the later issues.
- The authority to enforce the rights in the manuscript, on behalf of an author, for example in the case of plagiarism or in copyright infringement.
Copyright of JESSD is also to protect the specific way the manuscript which has been written to describe an experiment and the results. JESSD is pledged to its authors to protect and defend their research and takes allegations of infringement, plagiarism, ethic disputes and fraud. Moreover, this means that your manuscript can assure attribution of your work, by making sure you are identified as the author, and you can act as stewards of the scholary record on your research.
The JESSD is an open access journal, it does not charge readers or institutions for access. There are no charges for submission of a manuscript, article processing, publication of manuscripts or colour reproduction of photographs.

Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research available to the public for free supports a greater global exchange of knowledge in term of environmental science and sustainable development. This journal is accessible on the public internet, permitting any users (academics, students, lecturer, etc.) to copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format, and also to remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially (CC BY-SA 4.0).
When the Authors are prepare and ready to submit a manuscript, please understanding that if the article are accepted for publication, copyright of the article should be assigned to Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development, School of Environmental Science Universitas Indonesia as the publisher of the journal.
Peer Review Process
All articles submitted to the Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development must obey to the (Author Guidelines) and (Focus and Scope) of this journal. And also, the article must be free from plagiarism content. Editors will check the similarity of articles in this journal by using iThenticate application.
All articles submitted to this journal must be written in good English (American English). Authors for whom English is not their native language will be proofread by ENAGO before the article published. The articles that you submit it to this journal must not have been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.
After the article are submitted, editorial staff will go through Initial Review processes by the Editorial Board. Then, the articles will be sent to peer reviewers at east 2 (two) or more expert reviewers for the next step of the selection, the Double-Blind Review Process. As soon as the double-blind review process is finished, the articles will be returned to the authors for revision. These processes can take up to 1 to 2 months. Each manuscript will be peer-reviewed in terms of the substantial and technical aspects. The peer review team are all experienced in the management and publication of national and international academic journal.
The final decision of manuscript acceptance is solely made by Editor in Chief or Managing Editor. These decisions according to reviewers' critical comments (not solely by Reviewer).
Opinions expressed in articles and creative pieces published on the JESSD are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the editorial board or the publisher.
Contents of the Journal are archived for perpetual access through Bepress Digital Common Publishing Platform, and Google Drive File Manager system. Once article published, the contents are never changed.
