About the Journal

The Journal of Middle East and Islamic Studies (MEIS) is a peer-reviewed, open access journal (ISSN 2442-6946 and E-ISSN 2685-239X) published by the Graduate School of Sustainable Development (GSSD), Universitas Indonesia, and managed by the Middle East and Islamic Studies Program. MEIS aims to deepen the understanding of the Middle East and Islam through a multidisciplinary approach, bringing together scholars, policymakers, and practitioners for cross-cultural dialogue, with particular attention to Islamic perspectives.

The journal welcomes comparative, multidisciplinary, and interdisciplinary research that advances social, political, and economic scholarship in Indonesia and beyond, and addresses the challenges and opportunities of developing countries in a changing global landscape. Publication Schedule

MEIS is published twice a year, in June and December. Each volume consists of two issues.

Open Access

MEIS provides immediate open access to all content. Articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license. See Copyright Information and Open Access Policy for details.

Peer Review

All submissions are screened by the editors and evaluated through double-blind peer review. See Policies and Reviewers for the review process.

Ownership and Management

MEIS is owned and published by the Graduate School of Sustainable Development (GSSD), Universitas Indonesia, and managed by the Middle East and Islamic Studies Program. The editorial team is listed on the Editorial Board page. Publishing costs are described under Article Processing Charges.

MEIS content is hosted on UI Scholars Hub, the institutional repository of Universitas Indonesia.

History
