Submission and Originality Policy

Who Can Submit

JDVI welcomes manuscript submissions from clinicians and researchers worldwide in the fields of dermatology, venereology, and aesthetics. At least one author of every submitted manuscript must be a dermatovenereologist. Authors submitting a manuscript must have made appropriate contributions to the work and must have the authority to submit the manuscript for consideration. All listed authors must meet JDVI’s Authorship and Contributorship Policy and agree to the submission.

Originality and Exclusive Submission

Manuscripts submitted to JDVI must be original and must not have been previously published in substantially the same form or be under consideration for publication by another journal. Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal.

Authors are responsible for disclosing any prior publication, related manuscript, or overlapping submission that may be relevant to the editorial assessment. Previous dissemination of research, including publication of preliminary or related findings, should be disclosed to the journal at the time of submission.

JDVI does not consider duplicate or redundant publication acceptable. Manuscripts that substantially overlap with previously published or concurrently submitted work may be rejected or subject to further action in accordance with JDVI's Publication Ethics Policy.

By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that the submission complies with JDVI's policies, including its requirements concerning authorship, originality, ethical conduct, conflicts of interest, and disclosure of relevant related publications.

Authorship and Contributorship Policy

The Journal of General – Procedural Dermatology and Venereology Indonesia (JDVI) follows the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) regarding authorship and contributorship. Authorship should reflect substantial intellectual contributions to the work and responsibility for its integrity.

Authorship Criteria

According to ICMJE, to qualify as a main author, an individual must meet all four of the following criteria:

Make substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data; AND
Draft the manuscript or critically revise it for important intellectual content; AND
Approve the final version to be published; AND
Agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work and ensure that questions concerning its accuracy or integrity are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Authorship should be determined collectively by the authors, preferably at the beginning of the research and revised as necessary throughout the project. The order of authorship should also be determined collectively by the authors and is not determined by JDVI or its editors.

Authorship Changes and Disputes

Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors after submission must include an explanation and written agreement from all listed authors and any author being added or removed. JDVI may request additional documentation when necessary.

Authorship disputes should be resolved by the authors and/or their affiliated institutions. JDVI does not determine authorship or arbitrate authorship disputes. If an agreement cannot be reached, the relevant institution(s) where the work was conducted should be asked to investigate.

Corresponding Author

The corresponding author is primarily responsible for communication with JDVI throughout submission, peer review, and publication. The corresponding author should ensure that all authorship information, ethical approvals, clinical trial registration, conflict-of-interest disclosures, and other required documentation are complete and accurate.

The corresponding author should respond promptly to editorial queries and remain available after publication to address questions or concerns regarding the article. JDVI may communicate with all listed authors when appropriate.

Contributors and Acknowledgments

Individuals who contribute to a manuscript but do not meet authorship criteria should not be listed as authors. Their contributions may be acknowledged where appropriate, provided that they have given permission to be acknowledged.

Artificial Intelligence Policy

JDVI recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI), including large language models (LLMs) and generative AI tools, may support certain aspects of scholarly work. However, AI-generated content may be inaccurate, incomplete, biased, or improperly attributed. Authors, editors, reviewers, and other contributors remain responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, confidentiality, and accountability of all work submitted to or published by JDVI.

Use of AI by Authors

Authors may use AI-assisted tools for purposes such as language refinement, grammar and spelling correction, improving clarity, creating explanatory illustrations, or supporting data visualization, provided that appropriate human oversight is maintained.

Every use of AI by authors must be disclosed in the Artificial Intelligence Disclosure section of the manuscript, including the AI tool or model used, its version where applicable, and the purpose of its use. Authors are responsible for reviewing and verifying all AI-assisted content and for ensuring that appropriate citations, permissions, and attributions are provided where necessary.

AI tools, including chatbots and LLMs, must not be listed as authors or credited as authors, as they cannot meet JDVI’s authorship, accountability, and responsibility requirements. AI-generated content must not be used as a primary source or cited as a substitute for the original scholarly source.

Use of AI in Images and Research

AI tools may be used to assist in creating explanatory images, such as flowcharts, decision trees, timelines, schematic illustrations, and experimental workflow diagrams, provided that the use of AI is appropriately disclosed and subject to human oversight. Any AI-assisted image must be disclosed in the Artificial Intelligence Disclosure section of the manuscript, including the tool or model, version, and purpose of use.

AI may be used to support data visualization only when the resulting figures faithfully represent the underlying data and are generated using reproducible analytical, computational, or statistical methods. Such use must be disclosed in the Artificial Intelligence Disclosure section, including the tool or model, version, and developer or manufacturer where applicable. Authors must retain the underlying data and may be asked to provide documentation of the AI-assisted process.

AI tools must not be used to fabricate, invent, falsify, or manipulate research data or to create primary research images that do not directly represent the underlying observations or experiments. Primary research images, including microscopy, histology, radiology, and other clinical or experimental images, must accurately represent the original data.

Use of AI by Editors and Peer Reviewers

The use of AI tools to review, evaluate, summarize, or make editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts is prohibited. Editors and peer reviewers must independently assess manuscripts and must not rely on AI-generated evaluations, recommendations, or analyses when performing their editorial or peer-review responsibilities. Editors and peer reviewers must not upload, paste, or otherwise disclose submitted manuscripts or any part thereof to AI tools or websites. Manuscripts submitted to JDVI are confidential. Editors and peer reviewers are responsible for maintaining this confidentiality throughout the editorial and peer-review process.

Responsible Use

All users of AI-assisted tools are responsible for ensuring that their use complies with applicable copyright, privacy, confidentiality, data protection, and intellectual property requirements. Failure to disclose required AI use or inappropriate use of AI may result in corrective action and may be addressed in accordance with JDVI's Publication Ethics Policy.

Copyright and Licensing Policy

Authors who publish with Journal of General - Procedural Dermatology and Venereology Indonesia agree to the following terms:

Authors retain copyright and grant Journal of General - Procedural Dermatology and Venereology Indonesia the right of first publication, with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0), which allows others to remix, adapt, and build upon the work non-commercially, provided appropriate acknowledgment of the authorship and initial publication in Journal of General - Procedural Dermatology and Venereology Indonesia is given.

Authors are permitted to copy and redistribute the abstract of the journal's published version of the work non-commercially, such as by posting it in an institutional repository or including it in a book, provided that its initial publication in Journal of General - Procedural Dermatology and Venereology Indonesia is acknowledged.

Open Access Policy

This journal is an open access journal that provides immediate, worldwide, barrier-free access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Funding and Conflict of Interest Policy

Disclosure of Funding and Conflicts of Interest

JDVI requires authors, reviewers, editors, and editorial staff to disclose any financial or non-financial relationships or activities that could influence, or could reasonably be perceived to influence, their judgment.

Authors must disclose all sources of financial support for their work and, where applicable, describe the role of the funder in the study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation of the data, manuscript preparation, and decision to submit the manuscript for publication. A disclosure statement of conflicts of interest, as provided by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), should also be submitted during the submission process.

Editors and reviewers must disclose any relevant conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from the evaluation or decision-making process when a conflict may compromise their impartiality.

Funding Sources and Editorial Independence

JDVI's operations and publication activities are supported by Article Processing Charges (APCs), research grants, and institutional support from Universitas Indonesia.

Editorial decisions are independent of the journal's funding sources and are based solely on the scientific quality, relevance, originality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, and peer-review assessment of submitted manuscripts.

JDVI provides a 50% discount on the applicable publication fee for authors affiliated with countries classified by the World Bank as Low-income or Lower-middle-income economies. The availability or receipt of a fee discount has no influence on the editorial evaluation or publication decision.

Editorial Policy

JDVI maintains editorial independence in evaluating and publishing manuscripts. Editorial decisions are based on scientific quality, originality, relevance to the journal's aims and scope, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, and peer-review outcomes, without influence from commercial, financial, or other external interests.

All submitted manuscripts undergo initial editorial screening for suitability and compliance with JDVI's aims and scope. The Journal Manager conducts an administrative and similarity check to ensure compliance with the required template, supporting documents, and similarity requirements using iThenticate. Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements may be returned to the authors for correction or completion. A similarity report alone does not constitute a determination of plagiarism.

The Editor-in-Chief or Vice Editor determines whether a manuscript is suitable for further consideration. The initial editorial screening is completed within approximately two weeks of submission. Manuscripts that meet the initial requirements are assigned to an appropriate Editorial Board member for peer review and Editorial Board evaluation. A Statistical Editor may be involved when specialist statistical assessment is required.

Authors may be asked to revise their manuscripts, and revised manuscripts are re-evaluated based on the editorial and peer-review comments. Further revisions may be requested when necessary.

Following acceptance, manuscripts undergo language and proofreading checks using Trinka, followed by review by the Language Editor. The manuscript then proceeds to layout and typesetting according to JDVI's in-house requirements. The final proof is sent to the corresponding author for confirmation and approval, followed by final review by the Editor-in-Chief or Vice Editor. Manuscripts are scheduled for publication according to JDVI's publication schedule, with applicable APCs payable before publication.

Manuscripts submitted by JDVI Editorial Board members or peer reviewers are handled by editors and reviewers without conflicts of interest and undergo the same editorial and peer-review process as other submissions.

Authors may appeal an editorial decision by submitting a reasoned appeal with relevant supporting information to the Editorial Office. Appeals are reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief or a designated editor or reviewer not involved in the original decision, where possible. Complaints concerning editorial conduct or processes are handled fairly and confidentially in accordance with JDVI's Publication Ethics Policy.

Peer Reviewer Policy

All manuscripts submitted to the Journal of General – Procedural Dermatology and Venereology Indonesia (JDVI) undergo double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers. Manuscripts are anonymized before review, and reviewers' identities are not disclosed to authors. Reviewer comments are provided anonymously to the corresponding author for consideration and response.

Reviewers are selected based on their expertise and relevant research experience. They are required to maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest. Reviewers should decline an assignment if a conflict of interest may compromise the impartiality of their assessment.

Reviewers are expected to complete their evaluations within two weeks. The review period may be extended when additional time is required. If an assigned reviewer does not respond within the designated period, JDVI may appoint an alternative reviewer, which may extend the review timeline by approximately two additional weeks.

The final editorial decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief, Vice Editor, or designated editor, taking into consideration the reviewers' recommendations and the overall editorial assessment. Reviewers provide recommendations and do not make the final publication decision.

Use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools during peer review is not permitted. Reviewers must not upload, disclose, or otherwise share confidential manuscript content with generative AI tools or other external services.

The peer-review process is monitored by the JDVI Editorial Office to ensure that manuscripts are evaluated fairly, confidentially, and in a timely manner.

Advertisement Policy

JDVI does not accept or display advertisements on its website. The journal maintains an advertisement-free website and does not allow commercial advertising to influence its editorial processes, content, or publication decisions.

General Terms and Conditions of Use

Users of the UI Scholars Hub website and/or software agree not to misuse the UI Scholars Hub services or software in any manner.

The failure of UI Scholars Hub to exercise or enforce any right or provision under these policies or the Submission Agreement shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. If any provision of the Submission Agreement or these policies is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the parties agree that the provision shall be interpreted, to the extent permitted by law, to reflect the original intent of the parties, while the remaining provisions of the Submission Agreement and these policies shall remain in full force and effect.

These policies and the Submission Agreement constitute the entire agreement between UI Scholars Hub and the author(s) concerning the submission of the article.
