Author Guidelines

  1. The article should be an original piece of work and has not been published or submitted to another journal.
  2. The article should be written in English. Manuscripts submitted in Bahasa Indonesia should be translated to English prior to acceptance and publication.
  3. The article should be between 6,000-8,000 words, excluding bibliography and footnotes. Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of the content of their paper and shall avoid plagiarism.
  4. The article should be written in 12-point Times New Roman font with 1.5 spacing.

Type of Articles

  1. Original Research Articles
  2. Original research articles should publish full reports of data from research.
  3. Theoretical articles
  4. Theoretical articles discuss concepts, conceptual framework, theoretical foundation, and perspectives in sociology and social theories. These article are peer reviewed but do not normally contain research or present experimental data. Masyarakat Jurnal Sosiologi publishes theoretical articles in English and Bahasa Indonesia.

Article Structure

Abstract

A concise and factual 150-200 words abstract is required. The abstract should include a brief introduction of the topic the author is investigating, the article’s aim/s or research question/s, an indication of research methods and approach, a summary of key arguments or main findings. The abstract is written in English and Bahasa Indonesia.

Keywords

Authors should provide 4 to 5 keywords, separated by comma (,). These should be placed beneath the abstract. The keywords are written in English and Bahasa Indonesia.

Introduction (or Background)

This section should provide:

  • The general and specific background necessary to understand the topic.
  • Summary of all the relevant research conducted on the particular topic.
  • A description of the gap in our knowledge that the study was designed to fill.
  • A statement of study objective or research questions, and a brief summary of approach or theoretical framework, research method, arguments or key findings.
Approach or Theoretical Framework

This section should demonstrate approaches or theories or concepts applied by authors in constructing their arguments and analyzing their data. The selection of approaches or theories or concepts should address the gap of knowledge detailed in the introduction section. Subheadings within this section should be organized to illustrate the main approaches or theories or concepts.

Research Method

This section should provide a description of research design, data sources, data collection, and data analysis. It shows how authors collect their data and arrive at the result of their study. This section can be written before or after the approach or theoretical framework.

Results and Discussion

This section presents all data of the research and discusses it in the context of existing literature, approach, and theoretical framework. Subheadings within this section should be organized to illustrate key arguments or findings of the article.

Conclusions

This section should restate the article's main arguments and summarize the key supporting ideas the author discussed throughout the article.

References, In-Text Citations and Footnotes

  1. References, citations in the text, and footnotes should be written in ASA (American Sociological Associations) style.
  2. Avoid writing a footnote, unless a topic needs additional clarification outside the body of the article. Footnotes are written in a different font size (10-point Times New Roman). Arrange footnotes sequentially by number, located on the same page as the superscript number. Include references if necessary.
  3. When creating any tables, figures, or charts, follow the example below. At the top there is a title and numbering sequentially, and at the bottom are the listed data sources. A description of the table or figure should be located just below the table or figure.
  4. At the end of the article, all references in the text must be listed alphabetically by the main author's last name.

Submission Preparation Checklist

  1. The submitting author(s)' profile (full name, affiliation, and e-mail address) must not be included in the text when submitting so that the reviewers may perform double blind review.
  2. Journal articles should be submitted through Digital Commons on this website in MS Word Formats (.doc or .rtf), not PDF. The author(s) needs to register online by creating an account (username & password on this website before submitting, by navigating to the My Account tab and clicking Sign Up.
  3. Author(s) must pay attention to the various points listed in Publication Ethics in order for the article to be considered.
  4. By publishing through this journal, author(s) hand over the copy rights of full article (abstract, tables, figures, illustrations) to LabSosio, Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Indonesia, including the right to republish in any media.
