Abstract

Kajian ini ditujukan untuk menemukan pemahaman perkembangan kesadaran nasional bangsa Melayu dalam mencapai kemerdekaan bangsa Melayu. Di dalamnya dikaji muncul dan berkembangnya kelompok-kelompok intelektual baru Melayu yang memiliki daya desak di balik perkembangan pergerakan kemerdekaan Melayu. Tahun 1920-an dianggap sebagai awal perkembangan kesadaran nasional bangsa Melayu. Dalam periode itu kelompok sosial baru, yaitu kaum agamawan terdidik, intelektual terdidik Melayu, dan intelektual terdidik Inggris, muncul di luar hierarki Melayu tradisional dan mulai menampilkan cita-cita sosiopolitis yang berdampak besar pada pembentukan bangsa Malaya, yang kemudian menjadi Malaysia, hingga bergerak terus ke tahun 1948.
