Volume 2, Issue 2 (2022) Indonesia’s New Capital City: A Future Design for Sustainable City
The plan for the State Capital of Indonesia/Ibu Kota Negara (IKN) has existed since 2021. It was enacted into the 2022 Law No. 3 on the State Capital (UU IKN) on February 15th, 2022. The 2022-2024 IKN roadmap shows that the current development of the State Capital is in the early stage. This road map consists of four initial steps: (1) initial relocation to the IKN Area (K-IK), (2) construction of primary infrastructures, such as: the presidential palace, the MPR/DPR RI buildings and housing, (3) relocation of ASN (State Civil Apparatus), and (4) construction and operation of primary infrastructure for the first 500 000 residents. Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning as the planner for relocating the National Capital, indicates that sustainable planning needs to preserve nature in balance with urban development. The concept of urban development based on technological innovation and environmental quality has started to be widely discussed along with the plan for National Capital relocation. Therefore, this issue is potentially sensitive.Articles
