Abstract

Recent years have witnessed renewed interest in how attachment is no longer limited to human figures. Instead, the attachment discourses now also encompass artificial intelligence (AI). Attachment to AI could be caused by a number of factors which could potentially lead to some psychological consequences, hence this new dynamic calls for further in-depth inquiries to understand it better.

To date, no previous study has developed an Indonesian version scale to measure AI attachment that is adequate in terms of its psychometric properties. The primary aim of this study is to demonstrate the adaptation and validation of the attachment to AI scale. The process includes reverse translations, synthesis, expert judgement, and readability tests.

Furthermore, the validation process was conducted by using confirmatory factor analysis and assessing the correlation with social connectedness and loneliness scales. The number of participants involved amounted to 404 individuals aged 18-42 years old (M=21.56, SD=2.29).

The confirmatory factor analysis shows that the attachment to AI scale consists of 15 items. The model fit index indicates that this scale has a 3-factor structure, which is aligned with the original scales, which are the emotional closeness, social substitution, and normative regard scales. The reliability testing shows an adequate level of McDonald’s Omega reliability. Therefore, this adapted attachment to AI scale is a valid and reliable instrument to measure AI attachment in the Indonesian context.

Bahasa Abstract
