Abstract

Community library comes from community information needs. Community library was born because of dissatisfaction to information access in public library service. Community library also can support the process of community knowledge creation in the society. Perpustakaan Anak Bangsa is a community library which operates in Jabung Village Malang Disctrict since 1998. The aim of this research is to demonstrate the Perpustakaan Anak Bangsa activities in society knowledge creation process. This research used case study method with qualitative approach. The research shows that Perpustakaan Anak Bangsa’s main role is helping the process of knowledge creation by providing reading materials. In other activity, Perpustakaan Anak Bangsa makes an innovation with correlation between eduction function and recreation through user communities’ development. Perpustakaan Anak Bangsa is also active in information network.

Bahasa Abstract

Taman Bacaan Masyarakat merupakan kebutuhan masyarakat yang berangkat dari kebutuhan informasi masyarakat. Selain itu TBM juga lahir karena ketidakpuasan masyarakat terhadap akses informasi yang diberikan oleh layanan perpustakaan daerah. Namun lebih kompleks peran TBM dapat mendukung proses pembentukan pengetahuan masyarakat. Menanggapi hal tersebut lahir Perpustakaan Anak Bangsa yang beraktivitas di Desa Jabung Kabupaten Malang sejak tahun 1998. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menggambarkan aktivitas Perpustakaan Anak Bangsa dalam mendukung pembentukan pengetahuan masyarakat. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian studi kasus dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa fokus utama dari peran Perpustakaan Anak Bangsa dalam membantu pembentukan pengetahuan masyarakat dengan menyediakan bahan bacaan. Dalam aktivitas lain, Perpustakaan Anak Bangsa mengambil inovasi dengan mengadakan kegiatan pengembangan masyarakat pemakai dengan menyelaraskan antara fungsi edukasi dan rekreasi. Selain itu, Perpustakaan Anak Bangsa juga berperan aktif pengembangan jejaring informasi di lingkup eksternal.
