ABOUT THIS JOURNAL
ANTROPOLOGI INDONESIA was published to develop and enrich scientific discussion for scholars focusing on socio-cultural issues in Indonesia. This journal applies a peer-reviewed process in selecting high-quality articles. Editors welcome article submissions based on original research findings and/or new theoretical positions within contemporary debates pertaining to anthropology, Indonesian studies and beyond. Authors are solely responsible for the contents of their submissions. Published articles do not necessarily reflect the position or opinions of the editors. The criteria of the submitted manuscripts are expected to touch one or more of the following themes: ethnographic/qualitative research findings on topics related to, or comparatively relevant to, socio-cultural issues in Indonesia; discussion of applied and collaborative research on development or policy-related engagements highlighting social, political, and cultural issues in Indonesia and beyond; elaborated discussions on current theoretical, methodological or ethical issues facing anthropologist in Indonesia and beyond; and last, critical reviews of anthropology-related literature and ethnographic monographs published within the last 3 years.
FOCUS AND SCOPES
Antropologi Indonesia was published to develop and enrich scientific discussion for scholars who put interest on socio-cultural issues in Indonesia. These journals apply peer-reviewed process in selecting the high-quality article. Editors welcome theoretical or research-based article submission. Author’s argument doesn’t need to be in line with editors. the criteria of the submitted article covers the following types of article: first, the article presents the results of an ethnographic/qualitative research on certain topic and is related to ethnic/social groups in Indonesia; second, the article is an elaborated discussion of applied and collaborative research with strong engagement between the author and the collaborator’s subject in implementing intervention program or any other development initiative that put emphasizes on social, political, and cultural issues; Third, a theoretical writing that elaborates social and cultural theory linked with the theoretical discourse of anthropology, especially in Indonesia anthropology; last, the article is a critical review of anthropological reference and other ethnography books that must be published at least in the last 3 years. PEER-REVIEW PROCESS
Submitted article will be selected and peer reviewed (2 reviewers). The submission should be in soft copy format and must be sent to journal.ai@gmail.com in Ms Word file format, double spaces, with letter size paper. The length of the article should not exceed 5000 words. Please also attach abstract with a maximum of 250 words length in English and Bahasa, and six keywords. The author should write their institution postal address and also the phone contact in the first part of the article. An article should meet the following structures: introduction, supporting data and the ground of author argument (for articles that are theoretical or methodological should include theoretical discussion and literature study), and conclusion. All references in the articles should be neatly put in a proper format. Footnotes should be written on the bottom part of every page, do not put them at the end of the article. The bibliography should follow the AAA (American Anthropologist Association) Style.
OPEN ACCESS POLICY
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
ETHICAL GUIDELINE FOR JOURNAL PUBLICTAION
The publication of an article in a peer-reviewed Antropologi Indonesia journal is an essential building block in the development of a coherent and respected network of knowledge. It is a direct reflection of the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions that support them. Peer-reviewed articles support and embody the scientific method. It is therefore important to agree upon standards of expected ethical behavior for all parties involved in the act of publishing: the author, the journal editor, the peer reviewer, the publisher and the society.
Jurnal Antropologi Indonesia takes its duties of guardianship over all stages of publishing extremely seriously and we recognize our ethical and other responsibilities. We are committed to ensuring that advertising, reprint or other commercial revenue has no impact or influence on editorial decisions. In addition, the Department of Anthropology Universitas Indonesia, and Editorial Board will assist in communications with other journals and/or publishers where this is useful and necessary.
Publication decisions
The editor of the Antropologi Indonesia journal is responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published. The validation of the work in question and its importance to researchers and readers must always drive such decisions. The editors may be guided by the policies of the journal's editorial board and constrained by such legal requirements as shall then be in force regarding libel, copyright infringement and plagiarism. The editors may confer with other editors or reviewers in making this decision.
Fair play
An editor at any time evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.
Confidentiality
The editor and any editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.
Disclosure and conflicts of interest
Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor's own research without the express written consent of the author.
Duties of Reviewers
Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and through the editorial communications with the author may also assist the author in improving the paper.
Promptness: Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse himself from the review process.
Confidentiality: Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.
Standards of Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.
Acknowledgment of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument had been previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation. A reviewer should also call to the editor's attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.
Disclosure and Conflict of Interest: Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.
AUTORSHIP AND PLAGIARISM
Authorship of articles should be limited to those who have contributed sufficiently to take public responsibility for the contents. These contributions include (a) conception and design, analysis and interpretation of data, or both; (b) drafting the article or revising it critically for important intellectual content; (c) final approval of the version to be published; and (d) agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work by ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved. Submission to the JAI is interpreted by the journal to mean that all the listed authors have agreed with all of the article's content.
The corresponding (submitting) author is responsible for having ensured that this agreement has been reached, and for managing all communication between the journal and co-authors before and after publication. Any requests for changes to the author list after submissions, such as a change in the order of the authors, or the deletion or addition of authors needs to be accompanied by a letter signed by all original authors. The letter should be scanned and e-mailed to journal.ai@gmail.com by the submitting author. The JAI editors assume that on multi-group collaborations, one member of each collaboration, usually the most senior member of each submitting group has accepted responsibility for the contributions to the manuscript from their team.
It is the responsibility of the corresponding author to ensure that:
1. The article is an original work and does not involve fraud, fabrication, or plagiarism.
2. The article has not been published previously and is not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. If accepted by the JAI, the article will not be submitted for publication to any other journal.
3. The article contains no defamatory or unlawful statements and does not contain any materials that infringe upon individual privacy, proprietary rights, or any statutory copyright.
4. They have written permission from owners for any excerpts from copyrighted works that are included and have credited the sources from where they were obtained.
5. All authors have made significant contributions to the study including the conception and design of the article, the analysis of the data, and the writing of the manuscript.
All authors have reviewed the manuscript, take responsibility for its content and approve its publication.
7. All authors are aware of and agree to the terms of this publishing agreement.
