Abstract

Introduction Premature ejaculation (PE) is a common sexual dysfunction that significantly impacts quality of life. Occupational stress and poor sleep quality are hypothesized as risk factors, particularly among Information and Technology (IT) workers who experience unique occupational stressors. This study aimed to evaluate the proportion of PE, examine the influence of occupational stress and sleep quality on PE, and determine whether sleep quality mediates the relationship between occupational stress and PE among Indonesian IT workers.

Methods This cross-sectional study involved 89 married male IT workers who completed online questionnaires, including the Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool (PEDT), Perceived Occupational Stress (POS) Scale, and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data analysis utilized bivariate regression and covariance-based structural equation modeling (CB-SEM) to test direct relationships and mediation effects.

Results The proportion of confirmed PE was 13.48%, while 46.07% had probable PE. Occupational stress did not directly affect PE (β=0.06, p=0.52) or sleep quality (β=0.22, p=0.10). Conversely, poor sleep quality significantly increased PE risk (β=0.59, p<0.001). Mediation analysis indicated sleep quality did not mediate the occupational stress-PE relationship (indirect β=0.12, p=0.10).

Conclusion Poor sleep quality significantly contributes to PE among IT workers, whereas occupational stress does not directly influence PE or sleep quality. Interventions targeting improved sleep hygiene could mitigate PE risk in this population. Future research should explore additional psychosocial factors, incorporate objective sleep assessments, and employ longitudinal designs to clarify causal pathways.
