Abstract

Sewing workers in the garment industry are at high risk of developing non-ergonomic working postures that may lead to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), due to prolonged static postures and the use of chairs that are not compatible with workers’ anthropometry. Preliminary surveys indicated complaints of pain in the back, neck, and waist (90%), shoulders and forearms (85%), and upper arms (80%). An ergonomic intervention that can be implemented is the use of ergonomic chairs. This study aims to analyze the effect of using SIGO (Seat Improvement for Garment Operators) as an ergonomic intervention on improving working posture and reducing MSD complaints among sewing workers. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group design. A total of 52 respondents were divided into an intervention group (n=26) and a control group (n=26). The research instruments included working posture assessment using the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA), MSD assessment using the Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire, and anthropometric measurements. The intervention group used SIGO for 6 working days. Data analysis was performed using paired t-tests to compare pre- and post-intervention conditions within groups, and independent t-tests to compare outcomes between groups. The results showed a decrease in the mean RULA score from 5.08 to 3.12 (a 38.6% reduction), while MSD scores decreased from 59.92 to 30.81 (a 48.6% reduction). The independent t-test indicated a significant difference between the intervention and control groups in both RULA and MSD scores (p < 0.001). The SIGO intervention had a significant effect in improving working posture and reducing MSD complaints among sewing workers.

Pekerja sewing di industri garmen berisiko tinggi mengalami postur kerja yang tidak ergonomis yang dapat menyebabkan musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) akibat postur statis serta penggunaan kursi yang tidak sesuai dengan antropometri pekerja. Survei awal menunjukkan keluhan nyeri pada punggung, leher, dan pinggang (90%), bahu dan lengan bawah (85%), serta lengan atas (80%). Intervensi ergonomi yang dapat dilakukan adalah penggunaan kursi ergonomis. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pengaruh penggunaan SIGO (Seat Improvement for Garment Operators) sebagai untervensi ergonomis terhadap perbaikan postur kerja dan penurunan keluhan MSDs pada pekerja sewing. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain quasi-experimental dengan pretest–posttest control group design. Sampel berjumlah 52 responden yang dibagi menjadi kelompok intervensi (n=26) dan kontrol (n=26). Instrumen penelitian meliputi penilaian postur kerja menggunakan Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA), penilaiain MSDs menggunakan kuesioner Nordic Body Map (NBM), serta pengukuran antropometri. Kelompok intervensi menggunakan SIGO selama 6 hari kerja. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan paired t-test untuk membandingkan kondisi sebelum dan sesudah intervensi dalam kelompok, serta independent t-test untuk membandingkan hasil antara kelompok. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan penurunan rata-rata skor RULA dari 5,08 menjadi 3,12 (penurunan 38,6%), serta skor MSDs menurun dari 59,92 menjadi 30,81 (penurunan 48,6%). Uji independent t-test menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan antara kelompok intervensi dan kontrol pada skor RULA dan MSDs (psewing.
